Enjoy three Saturdays in a row with Dan
DiMaria from Santa Fe. Dan has recently
published a drawing manual "Figure Drawing
from Life: Tools, Techniques, and Tricks"
based on the Reilly drawing technique.
Frank Reilly's classes at the Art Student's
League in NYC educated a generation of
artists and illustrators, including Clark
Hulings, James Bama, and Cesare Borgia.
The latter (Borgia) carried on the Reilly
tradition at the "Reilly League" in White
Plains, NY, for 39 years, where Dan DiMaria
studied for over a decade. The Reilly Method
of drawing stresses capturing the figure with
minimum strokes, which can then be worked
to any level of finish with a complete figure
possible within 10-20 minutes. Models at the
Strarlight Ranch will wear swimsuits or shorts.
Materials List (all can be purchased at Artisan):
1) Large drawing board with clips to hold
paper (must be larger than 12x18 inches in size)
2) Large pad of newsprint (rough or smooth)
3) "Wolfe" carbon pencils, sizes 2B and 4B
("Generals" can be substituted if Artisan is out of Wolfe's)
4) Kneaded erasers
5) Sandboard (for shaping carbon tip)
6) Single edged razor blades with holder for
sharpening pencils
You must have 1, 2, 3, and 4. However, 5
and 6 are optional, at least initially.

participated in fourteen museum shows over

magazine'. In 1998, his figurative work was
showcased in 'The Best of Portrait Painting' by
North Light books. He has participated in over
70 juried and 30 invited shows including Oil
Painters of America, Academic Artists,
International Guild of Realism, Salon
International, American Artist's Professional
League, Hudson Valley Art Association,
Masterworks of New Mexico, and Allied Artists.
