"Splash Ink with Watercolor" is a blending
of Asian black ink and primary watercolors
splashed onto rice paper or wet watercolor
paper, adding finishing touches from both
Eastern and Western traditions.  Blending
black ink and watercolors produces an
abstract that can be variously interpreted.
Often the artist must look at the abstract
forms for a while to let the colors speak.
The creativity is in the mind of the artist who
adds finishing touches using rocks,
mountains, rivers, waterfalls, birds and
trees. (Bring your own reference photos if
you like.) This innovative style of painting
expresses an exceptional and contemporary
view of nature.  Ming will give step by step
instruction and demonstrations.  Students
will create their own splash ink paintings in
an inspirational setting.

Born in Taiwan, Ming Franz, grew up in a
traditional Chinese painting environment and
attended classes at the National Art Institute of
Taiwan. When she moved to the United States,
Ming immersed herself in the world of Western
art while maintaining her bond with Chinese
arts.  Seeing the Splash paintings of world-
renowned artist Chang Dai-Chien was an
epiphany. She began experimenting with the
process while studying under Master Hau Pei-Jen
and Professor Arthur Kao of San Jose State.
Over the years Ming has incorporated her own
innovative style of landscape painting that
combines Chinese splash ink and Western
watercolor techniques. Her paintings have been
published in Rachel Rubin Wolf's
Splash 9 and
10 series of books and the new  Open Studio
Press
magazine in March, 2008. Ming’s
illustrated step by step book and instructional
DVD
Splash Ink with Watercolor,  Looking
East, Painting West
, was released in August
2007.  Ming now lives in Edgewood, New Mexico
where she continues to create art and also
teaches classes in Splash Ink and Chinese
Brushpainting. You may view her paintings at
