A college art student in the 1970s, Deb got sidetracked as an aircraft
maintenance officer in the Air Force, as well as moving around the world
with Ken's job as an Air Force C-130 pilot, and raising a family! Deb was
initially inspired to paint landscapes in Hawaii by the wonderful Gloria
Foss, creator of the Foss School of Color (How to Paint: A Course in the
Art of Oil Painting, Watson-Guptill, 1991; & with Susan Rogers-Aregger,
Paper Dyeing for Collage & Crafts, Belknap Pub. & Design, 2004). Upon
Ken's transfer to Albuquerque, New Mexico, Deb became a student of
David Schwindt, an oil painter of luminous western landscapes ("The
Value Solution," The Artist's Magazine, Feb 2003).
David captures the color and light in such a marvelous way that once
you've seen his paintings, you're hooked for life! David taught our first
two workshops and gave us the confidence to push forward, inviting
other accomplished teacher-artists to join us. See our schedule of
upcoming workshops with David, Bud Edmondson (fabulous watercolor
landscapes), Fred Miller (portraits in oil & pastel), Jane Mahon (drawing
and painting the horse), and Ming Franz (splash ink watercolor).
Our mission is to provide an inspirational setting and atmosphere for
exceptional artists to teach, mentor and positively influence other artists
and aspiring artists to become better! Situated on 85 acres, with 360
degree views of the Sandia, San Pedro, and Sangre De Cristo Mountain
ranges, Starlight Ranch is the ideal setting for artist workshops!

Starlight Ranch
has been the Brown
family home for 14
years; but as kids
grew up and
ventured away to
college and careers,
we (Deb and Ken)
decided to open our
doors to established
and aspiring artists!
